In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, some Plague Doctors wore a beak-like mask which was filled with aromatic items. The masks were designed to protect them from putrid air, which was seen as the cause of the bubonic plague.

Nice Beak Mask dolls. I always found those masks to look cool. They were like the 1700's attempt at Gas Masks.
